When You Live With 200 kitties - You Just Know ...

Here at Puffy Paws we specialize in taking care of special needs kitties that would have been euthanized else were simply because someone would have deemed them to be unadoptable.

We are set up to handle the different medical concerns the kitties have by separating them into their very own living quarters.

We have the 2200 sq foot " Haven Home " which has our healthy adoptable kitties, and our permanent residence who have physical, emotional and behavioral problems.

Our 2nd building is 800 sq foot and 400 sq foot of it is solely use for the kitties with feline leukemia, which we have nick named " The Kitty Angel Club " because all the precious fur-babies are living angels who are living out their lives.

When you live with 200 kitties you know each and everyone personally and their personality.

For example,  Baby Doll is a slow kitty and does not comprehend things like a normal kitty. We just know. We been living with many, many kitties for the past 15 years.

We care for kitties with, physical ,emotional and behavior problems.

Even tho Baby Doll is mentally challenged she is still available for adoption.

Chrissy and I have a running joke at Puffy Paws. We have two kind of kitties at Puffy Paws.

The type A kitties that live at Puffy Paws are on the Bowling Team and the slower ,type B kitties are on the soft ball team.

When a type B kitty comes in to the Haven they are on kitty watch with food and water where they camp out, until they integrate into one of the Haven‘s rooms..

Puffy Paws rooms are broken down with slang.

Louie is on the left - watching as the other kitties raid the bag of dry.

We have  Gen Pop. ( General Population - Back room or Sun Room). This room is where the type A kitties live. It is over seen by alpha males, Big Louie is the Barn Boss and makes sure every one is behaving in their hierarchy system the kitties have set up. Everyone knows their place.

We have the feline leukemia kitties in their separate and quarantine, 400sq foot wing, called the Kitty Angel Club. All the kitties get along.

We have two special rooms for the type B kitties.

Meer Kat Manor and Protective Custody. These kitties would have never made it out in Gen Pop

They are docile kitties and do not like to mix it up with other type A kitties. They all get along with each other in a peace and harmony.

These two rooms of  peaceful docile kitties will be mixing together in the 2nd half of The Kitty Angel Club, once the remodel job is complete.

Also the main Haven is for the adoptable kitties and the special needs kitties that need a little extra TLC. This is where Baby Doll lives and the where the Live Shows takes place for now.

We will be web caming up all the rooms once more computers are donated.

Puffy Paws is cage less, free roaming , and we match the kitties personalities so that they may live with each other in total contentment.

This is why when the news media and hundreds of people who have been inside always say

“ I can not believe how well they get along together and they are so happy.”

We go where no one else dares  !!!!!!

We are a no -kill , cage-less,  free roaming loving home for unwanted kitties.

No cages, lights and air  on 24 -7, wet food - dry food down all the time and most of all love 24 hours a day.

I'm not purrrfect !

I'm not purrrfect ! My life is not easy or nor a normal one running Puffy Paws Kitty Haven. On a daily basic my emotions are like a roller coaster. I use all my positive and negative defects of character to my advantage in saving the kitties under my care. Some days are easier than others. But I will never trade my life. Here is what I deal with everyday within myself.

THE EVIL CLOWN REPORT: How is your day ? So far certain Walmart associates are giving me a hard time with the cat food being ready for me in the kitties special spot in the Pet Dept, even when the Co manger told them to have a spot for me.

If its not in that spot than they have to pull it from the back and that takes a hour from my day and the kitties have to wait for the dinner and breakfast. Imagine making special need kitties wait for their food. And than they tell me they understand !

Also it was really nice when they mention to me they don't like cats. Why would you tell me that ???

The station wagon got hit by a truck in the Walmart parking lot, while I was getting the cat food ,hit and run. It did some more damage to the spot that was already hit.

Also remember when I told you the Asst Editor of the Englewood Sun Herald told me she will do a story on our Live Streaming endeavors.

Well three weeks have passed and no story. Her intentions were well intended but I think the higher ups put a kill on our story ????

This is not the first time that has happened.

We are not the newspaper favorite rescue. According to one ad in the Newspaper most likely donated by the Newspaper, the other no kill rescue is the only no-kill in Town.

So here is my pledge. I'm hitting you up Englewood. Hard and heavy. Love me or hate me but stop taking it out on the special need kitties under our care.

We are not going away. My voice will be heard for the voiceless kitties that you abandoned to us. all through out the World.

But the powers that be - wanted us out of the way !
What happened will to us will make you think twice - is it always about the animals
Or is it all about - THE MONEY POWER & PRESTIGE. Only because of the kitty lovers through out the world is the only reason why the kitties are here today. For this we thank you.

Puffy Paws TV: Storm Sunday.

Puffy Paws TV: Storm Sunday. This is a great video of when the storm came through....."

You Know What Nice ???? The " Good Righteous " people of Englewood does not support Puffy Paws but the so called " Bad Boys" of Englewood do ??

Why is that ? For three years we used court order community service help at the Thrift Shop. We no longer use them.

But you think once they did their time here paying back their debt to society, we will never see them again. Right ? Wrong.

When I need these folks help, who Englewood cast their eyes down upon them, they help in a heart beat, on their own time.

Cause as they say on the streets " We Keep It Real ".

Today at the Thrift Shop many folks who did community service for the kitties , stopped by Shop to see how we are doing.

We had more " Street Thugs " at the shop helping today than customers. Spike says that respect and now wants to start his own "Crew" !!!! MOL

Planned Giving Assures the Security and Survival of Puffy Paws Kitty Haven. Your Generosity – Their Future

Planned Giving Assures the Security and Survival of Puffy Paws Kitty Haven
Your Generosity – Their Future

Investing in the Future of Puffy Paws Kitty Haven

A planned gift is one which you make during your lifetime but which is not received by Puffy Paws Kitty Haven until a future date. It could offer financial benefits to you, the investor, now while you are living.

Did you know there are planned gifts that you can make and enjoy certain IRS tax benefits NOW while having the joy of knowing you are undergirding the future of these precious little fur balls.
Considerations for Planned Giving A Will

Without one the state will determine you property distribution

Surveys show that only 4 out of 10 Americans across all age groups have current wills, concluding that this is a subject most people avoid. If a will is one of the most important documents you can own, why do so many people live without them?

Perhaps they think that by postponing death planning, they can postpone the inevitable? Or maybe they simply don't want to take the time or money (a relatively small amount) required to create an up-to-date will.

We suggest that it is time to think differently about a will. Think of planning a will as planning to improve and stabilize the financial security of yourself and your family. By thinking in this way, you will be putting present goals first. You may have heard that if you die without a will, the state will take all of your property.

While this is not usually true, it is fact that the state in which you live at the time of death is going to step in and determine exactly how your property is distributed—unless you have prepared a will.

Without a will, your wishes and good intentions are meaningless. Your estate will be divided using a predetermined formula that won’t take into account special needs or circumstances.

In most states, your assets will go to immediate family—a portion to a surviving spouse and a portion to any children you may have. If you have no immediate family, they will be divided among other relatives. State laws do not provide for close friends, employees or other loved ones, such as your spouse’s family members.

Neither the old friend that you wanted to remember with a treasured heirloom or the next-door neighbor who was always there to help will receive as much as a dime if you don’t have a will.

The same holds true for charitable organizations that you may have wanted to support generously after your death. If there is no will, there is no support.

A will allows you to remember the people you care about and the kitties at Puffy Paws Kitty Haven.
Power of Attorney

A general power of attorney permits the holder of the power to act on behalf of another individual, the grantor, and lapses upon the grantor's incompetence. A durable power of attorney survives the incompetence of the grantor and allows the holder of the power to act. This document can be used when a grantor lapses from competence to incompetence for periods of time.

Even the most prudent and trusting of us may be squeamish about giving someone else power of attorney, much less durable power of attorney. This plays into our refusal to believe that we might not be able to make our own decisions. A will—of course we'd have one. Health, home and car insurance—who would think of going without these? But to give someone else power of attorney sounds too much like giving away our power before there is any need to do so. Let's clear this up, just in case—it's too important, and too often misunderstood, not to talk about it.

In case of a sudden, grievous accident or illness, each of us certainly wants someone with the legal right to make the decisions we would make, until we're back to our normal mental and physical capacity.

We can structure our power of attorney any way we like. We don't have to find someone we trust absolutely—all we need to do is ask our attorney to put in writing stringent, detailed instructions.

We can even spell out how and when the power of attorney is to kick in. It's very much like going on an extended trip, where we are likely to be out of communication with family, friends or business associates for an indeterminate period of time

Of course, we would put in writing all of the financial, business and other decisions that might come up, and leave copies with the important people in our lives—certainly with our attorney.

If you plan to make a charitable gift by will, please think it through carefully. Then, meet with your attorney to discuss and update your will. Tell him or her exactly what you want to do.

Be as clear as possible in describing what you want given to whom. Here are eight generally accepted ways to make a bequest. You might discuss them with your attorney as you prepare to update your will.

The following items can apply in the case of bequests to individual heirs or bequests to charitable organizations.

Specific bequest. This is a gift of a specific item to a specific beneficiary.

General bequest. This is usually a gift of a stated sum of money. If there is not enough cash in the estate for the specific sum, other assets must be sold to meet the bequest.

Contingent bequest. This is a bequest made on condition that a certain event must occur before distribution to the beneficiary. A contingent bequest is specific in nature and fails if the condition is not met. (A contingent bequest is also appropriate if you want to name a secondary beneficiary, in case the primary beneficiary doesn't survive you.)

Residuary bequest. This is a gift of all the "rest, residue and remainder" of your estate after all other bequests, debts and taxes have been paid spouse.
The following items are special considerations when you plan a charitable bequest to help support the mission of Puffy Paws Kitty Haven.

Unrestricted bequest. This is a gift for our general purposes, to be used at the discretion of our founder/director and Board of Directors. A gift like this–without conditions attached–is frequently the most useful, as it allows us to determine the wisest and most pressing need for the funds at the time of receipt.

Restricted bequest. This type of gift allows you to specify how the funds are to be used. Perhaps you have a special purpose or project in mind. If so, it's best to consult us when you make your will to be certain your intent can be carried out.

Honorary or memorial bequest. This is a gift given "in honor of" or "in memory of" someone. We are pleased to honor your request and have many ways to grant appropriate recognition.

Endowed bequest. This bequest allows you to restrict the principal of your gift, requiring us to hold the funds permanently and use only the investment income they generate. Creating an endowment in this manner means that your gift can continue giving indefinitely.

Methods of Giving
Charitable Gift Annuity

The concept of the charitable gift annuity in America dates back to the 1870s, when a parishioner first donated a valuable asset to the church in exchange for a flow of income. Today, the concept includes valuable tax benefits for donors.
Charitable Remainder Trust

What are your plans for the future? While there is no single way to achieve all of your personal and financial goals, there is one strategy that can meet many of your needs. It's called a charitable remainder trust. In the right circumstances, this plan can increase your income, reduce your taxes, unlock appreciated investments, rid you of investment worries and ultimately provide very important support.

Charitable Lead Trust

If your goal is to provide an inheritance for your children, but you would also like to make a significant charitable gift through your estate, find out how a charitable lead trust can help you satisfy both objectives. It's a charitable lead trust that can provide a significant charitable gift through your estate and provide an inheritance to your children.

Wealth Replacement Trust

Perhaps you would like to make a sizable contribution to Puffy Paws Kitty Haven now to help meet our current needs, but you don't want to reduce the estate you will pass to your family. The solution? Purchase life insurance.

Retained Life Estate

One of your valued possessions, your home, can become a valued gift to us even while you are still living in it, and even if you want your spouse or other survivor to live there for life. This arrangement is called a retained life estate.

Leave your legacy by making a gift in your will to friends, family and charitable organizations. A bequest is one of the simplest ways to remember those you care about most.

Assets to Give
Gifts of Securities

The best stocks to donate are those that have increased greatly in value, particularly those producing a low yield. Even if it is stock you wish to keep in your portfolio, by giving us the stock and using cash to buy the same stock through your broker, you will have received the same income tax deduction but will have a new, higher basis in the stock

Gifts of Real Estate

If you own property that is fully paid off and has appreciated in value, an outright gift may be the simplest solution. You can deduct the fair market value of your gift, avoid all capital gains taxes and remove that asset from your taxable estate. You can transfer the deed of your home or farm to us now and keep the right to use the property for your lifetime and that of your spouse.

Gifts of Retirement Plan Assets

Did you know that nearly half your retirement plan assets can be eaten away by taxes at your death? Learn how to preserve more of your estate for the people and organizations that matter most in your life.

Gifts of Cash

The simplest way to give. However, you can deduct a cash gift for income tax purposes only in the year in which you contribute it. Your cash gifts are deductible up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income for the taxable year, but any excess is deductible over the next five years.

Gifts of Life Insurance

You can donate a life insurance policy to us or simply name us as the beneficiary. For the gift of a paid-up policy, you will receive an income tax deduction equal to the lesser of the cash value of the policy or the total premiums paid. To qualify for the federal charitable contribution deduction on a gift of an existing policy, you must name us as owner and beneficiary

Gifts of Securities: Closely Held Stock

Closely held stock, that which is not publicly traded, can also be used as a charitable gift even if you want to maintain a control position in the stock.

Which Gift Matches Your Goals?

Whether you want to eliminate taxes or benefit from an increased income stream, there is a gift to fit every objective. And no matter how or what you give, rest assured that you will be helping out animals that have been abused homeless and stray.

Your gift will help those in need now and those yet to be born.

Please call us at 941-623 -8904 , for further guidance.. Looking forward to what lies ahead

Daniel is our on-line volunteer working on the information in getting PSA's done

We have Daniel, a on-line volunteer working on the information in getting PSA's done . Here is our correspondences. It’s a slow go as you can see. But we will get their.

R -  Doing everything I can to keep the doors open.
Can you call COMCAST Corporation and find out what we have to do to get a PSA on the air. Send me the links, any information that you may have, etc.... - where are in Englewood Florida

D - ok, i'll see what i can dig up.

D - they told me at comcast to call tomorrow after 8am, so i'll work it into my schedule. i'm in physical rehab, so i have 2 different rounds of therapy each day. i'll look into finding some grants and such as well.

R- Thank you. Let me know what we have to do...Good luck on your rehab...

D -  i'm getting a bit discouraged with comcast. i kept getting a runaround until i finally found a number for public relations in florida. i called and the guy said he was on vacation and he gave me a name and a number to call, but when i called the number it said the number wasn't working. he gave me a mr. damiatto at (954) 256-1918, but as i said, it didn't work. the guy who said he was on vacation is a Mr. Spero Canton-Director, Public Relations
Phone: 954-931-2906 if you would like to try him. that's the best lead i've been able to find on getting a psa aired.

R- Thanks Daniel for the Comcast information. Thats why I had you do it cause I did not have the time for the run around....
Next is the ABC7 Sarasota and Fort Meyers...any community boards...For PSA's.
Than ... ME TV. I need a number to call.

D-ME TV, is that "memorable entertainment television"? or is it my fox 49 in tallahassee?

R- yes it is..they have a naples station
the first one

D- still working on the me tv, abc7, psa stuff.

D- ok, i have some info about fox 4 news if you guys are interested. i sent them an email about possibly getting psa's aired and this was the response:
Thanks for writing FOX 4. We have a Community Calendar which is online and a culmination of events that air in a :30 second announcement, 3x's a day. (the link to post events on the community calender is I suppose you can use it to promote raffles, the thrift store, the kitty show, etc)
The other way is if you have an already produced PSA, you are welcome to send it in for review. You would also need to include verification of the 501C3 status.

I hope this answers your questions.
Brent Struense
Marketing Director/WFTX-TV

D-still waiting to hear back from ME-TV/ABC7.

R - Very cool. The next step is fine out what they need the PSA format on. I can always produce one for review and how many seconds...You are doing great...Rick

D-  i sent him the message "Thanks for the prompt reply. I have a couple follow-up questions. What is the preferred format for review(dvd, mpeg, etc)? And, what is the preferred length of the psaok,
this was the reply from Brent Struense at Fox4 "Either format and the length is your call."

D-  still no reply from me-tv/abc7

R -  Kicking ass !!! WHOOOO AHHHH Thank you

D- finally got a reply from abc7 just to tell me the previous i emailed has resigned... so now to see what the new guy says.

D -  well, so far still no reply from the new guy at abc7. just updating.

Friday the 13

Service to other: With and without fur - Friday the 13 is the turning point of of my life. On Friday the 13th in January 1984 I walked into my first AA meeting at 21 years old. A wild mess of youth gone wild straight out of the Army. I hit bottom in Germany. I was almost stabbed to death, I was facing three years in Fort Leavenworth and my biggest goal was to live to be 22 years old.

If I kept on I knew I would never make it to see my next birthday. Since I walked out of that meeting I been clean and sober ever since. I meet Chrissy at a AA Dance 12 years latter and the rest is history. ( Chrissy has 30 years of sobriety ). Old Timers in AA ! We just did not drink at a day at a time and we did not die.
