Can you please help to save 200 special needs and unwanted kitties help by spreading the word about the plight of Puffy Paws Kitty Haven. My name is Rick Kingston. Along with my wife Chrissy
we founded Puffy Paws Kitty Haven in 2006. Today we are in extreme danger of closing the doors.....

We are an international word of mouth cat hospice and rescue.
We are located in Englewood Florida and with very little local support the kitty lovers of the world are taking care of the kitties by caring, sharing & donating, a day at a time.

You see, The World's Greatest Cathouse, Puffy Paws Kitty Haven is a 501(c) (3) non-profit, no-kill cat hospice and rescue specializing in providing quality and loving care to 200 hundred special needs cats and finding homes for the adoptable kitties under our care.

We are facing very hard economic times right now and its cost $225 for the kitties daily needs for cat food, litter and cleaning supplies, plus 3,000 in operating expenses every month.

My wife and I do not get paid. 100% of all donations goes for the kitties daily needs and operating expenses.

We are only making it a day at a time. Today we have so few donors, they are doing everything they can to keep the doors open at Puffy Paws.

We need to make aware to the kitty lovers of the world in how close we are in closing the doors. If we closed, the cats would die at the hands of others because the majority of them aren't adoptable because of age, medical issues, feral and behavioral issues.

If we fail at raising the funds needed every day for the kitties under our care, there will be no other option but to close down. What choice would we have?

An entire cat hospice will be wiped out and only painful and sad stories will be told because we could not round up the worldwide awareness and financial help these beautiful cats deserve.

You have the power to avert this tragedy today.

Its a good day at Puffy Paws we caught a break and only you can make it better.

Crunching numbers over here at Puffy Paws. Due to the hard economic times and at the same time having the kitties on a premium diet, which saves in vet bills and daily litter cost.

I think if everything works out we just dropped our daily cost for the kitties per day from $275 to $225.

A saving of $18,250 a year / $50 a day.

Thank you so very much...We made it ! Chrissy has all her litter and cleaning supplies and the kitties will have their breakfast at 9am when Mike's open !!! It was a close one today and I have to remember that intense feeling of fear I had tonight. But first.
A little bit of history about me which I have to dev into my soul and bring the lessons I learned as a professional telemarketing fundraiser and sales rep for many years, from back in the day. When asking for help from new sources on the internet.

REJECTION IS THE WAY TO SURVIVAL & A NEW BEGINNING

The more kitty lovers of the world I ask for help ,the more NO's,
I will get. But the more No's I get ,it only means I will be closer to the " YES WE CAN HELP YOU BY SPREADING THE WORD ABOUT THE PLIGHT OF PUFFY PAWS !!!!

I have to lie down my fear of rejection and do what is before me and celebrate the victories has they happen.

I have to do this now and put down everything that is not working for me and be true to myself in the realm of the exact nature of what I'm doing wrong.

A self inventory you may say becasue my job is to get new donors in our comer worldwide sharing our stark reality.
BUT with results, results and more results...

The only way I know how to do this is from by past and transform myself in the best fundraising machine I can be.

I'm not a humble man when I'm in action, I'm not a man that takes NO easy, I'm one step above a used car salesman, but unlike a used car salesman the truth is my ultimate power of persuasion.

Chrissy has seen me in action over the years as a very successful sales rep and she called me a Roaster and a peacock becasue I need to strut my stuff in order to keep the positive energies flowing.

Yet at the end of each day please know in my when I jump off the stage of worldwide fundraising, I will always be grateful for everything , everyone does for the kitties but getting their is what faces me and for that I need to release the beast that is inside me !!

Update: Got a phone call back. Bad News / Good News.

On the major grants level. - A Grant For A Spay and neuter program..

I was informed that these days, due to a policy change, the Gulf Coast  Community Foundation, are only giving out grants to the groups that are in collaboration with each other.

It turn into a very heated conversation as I explained to him ,while he was browsing our web site, that we tried to work the other groups in the area to no avail.

He than told me that he has worked in animal recuse in the are for 30 years and he well aware of the current situation of the level of  the lack of cooperation of the various groups, and when he first started out,he was astonish , by the lack of cooperation between each groups. I told him that we found out the hard way over the years. And than i  directed him to one of our pages on our Web site.

The True Story of Puffy Paws

I apologized for being so emotional in explaining to him what the other groups have directly done to Puffy Paws over the years. He than said -" Its all alright I can here the sincerity in your voice "and if I can find two groups who want to collaborate - he will have a check for me.

Like my  Father always said: Turn a negative to a positive .So my job in the future is try to find two groups that will eventually  want to collaborate on a group project with reducing the number of  feral cats with a spay and neuter program that will work out for all income brackets.

Yet their is still hope yet from getting help from the local community becasue he directed me to two different site.

One to get funding for smaller projects

ASKING FOR HELP LOCALLY:  WHY NOT US ????

In the years past we have not had good luck with getting a solid response from the local Gulf Coast   Community Foundation, http://www.gulfcoastcf.org/

In seeking aid from them. We never even got a chance for the application process with them for any of the programs, that they offer the other Humane societies and animal rescues in our area. Which has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars for them through out the years. 

Today I talk to the receptionist and brought up those concerns about the difficulties we had , with being told "NO:, one year from the git go. The other year, not getting phone calls back, and what did we have to to do to receive help from them and she said " Maybe We Can Not Help You " !!!

She than transfer me to a man she said could help - I left my number on a voice mail for Mark P. I will keep all you updated on this journey.

 I wish everyone a Happy Mothers Day. May your day be a joyous one.
Today is Mothers Day. Chrissy is the mother to 200 fur-babies under her care. Her days are grueling and long, as you shall read, below.
Her stress levels are extreme these days, with us struggling so much and she does not know if and when, she will have the kitties daily needs in the Haven.
If we all can give her a Great Mothers day by stocking the Haven for today.
We are behind the eight ball .We are short 5 bags of litter already and Mike's closes at 5pm today. We need to restock the Haven. $275 for all the kitties needs. If we can raise the funds in time I may be able to take her out to a Mothers day dinner.
A $5 $10 $25 will go a long ways today in getting the kitties daily needs in the Haven. www.puffypaws.org

She never gets to go out anymore and as I wrote this ,tears were flowing. The only world she knows these days are the kitties. With feeding BoBo , the little kitten,that no one wanted ,she is working 20 hours a day. She is exhausted and she a needs a little sunshine in her heart

I humbling ask that if we all can give her a break on Mother Days to get her out of the Haven and to see her laugh and smile and hold her hand and tell her how much she means to all of us , this will brighten up her soul , if its only for a few hours, It will mean so much to her.

Please lets all give Chrissy a small break she needs.If you can help please do.

The Future of Puffy Paws

We are at the crossroads over here at Puffy Paws. We are just making it day by day, by asking and asking for help, from a few, until the kitties have their daily needs met and when needed the operating expenses. With less and less folks opening up the email and folks dropping off the list. I need to do something fast because how much longer can we go on,like this ?

I have to many irons in the fire right now that are not paying off right away. Its really hard when you have to raise $275 a day, no mater what. That is a big nut to crack everyday. We can never let the kitties go without. Until I raise that I'm powerless to tackle any other projects.

That is why it is so hard to get ahead, we have to meet the kitties daily needs .We can never let them go without. But by asking and asking , we do it everyday through the grace of God and the fellowship of the kitty lovers around the world.

Yet I fear when the day when the help does not come in.
Than what ???

I need to go back to the old school way by asking for help from new kitty lovers from around the world on the internet.

Social media is the way we got to were we are today , at a day at a time.

Social Media is the only way to get the word out once again.
So what does this mean.

It means my butt belongs in a chair in front of the computer at the Thrift Shop office, while its open ,asking for help and creating awareness.

At night my butt belongs in front of a camera at the Haven taking great videos and pictures of the kitties and back on the computer.

Every body loves the kitties and more visual content to share on the net is what the Doctor ordered.

So here is the schedule -

Thrift Shop open at Noon.

Before Noon - Running around doing the errands that need to be done. Gaining new leads for Cathouse Media and closing the deals. Taking care of the kitties at the Adoption Center. ( Adoption Center starts next week )

Noon- 6pm - Thrift Shop Open- Computer work in creating that much needed awareness.  

6pm-7pm- Closing Shop & Picking up cat food.

7pm - 8.45PM - Computer work in raising funds if and when needed for the litter and cleaning supplies.

8.45pm -9:30 - Going to Publixs, Dollar General - picking up the litter and cleaning supplies with Chrissy and unloading. 

9:30 -11pm - Eat, shower
11pm -2pm - Taking pictures of kitties and videos and computer work.

2pm - 8:30   Chrisy & me time,after BoBo is weaned off the bottle  and Sleep.

I will be blogging once again on the progress of gaining new supporter through out the world, as we move ahead.

Spring Cleaning

Puffy Paws Fact: In October the VA thought I had lung cancer or leukemia.We did not know what the outcome will be. If it was bad we needed a place for Hospice to come in, at the Haven and take care of me, kitty free. So we set up the 2nd half of the 2nd building with a mini bedroom, computer station and testing area.

At that time we were just ripped off at the Thrift Shop by someone we trusted and I had to get all the valuable high dollar stuff out of the Shop.

Over the winter I built up the Haven's workshop / office, but it still does not have AC. The heat is here and Chrissy painted and redid one of the rooms in the Haven and turned it into the new Live Stream Kitty Adoption Media Room.

So this week, we are trying to beat the heat , and Spring clean the loft to, before the heats gets into the 100;s during the day,
and have everything ready to be moved back out of the workshop.

After the workshop is cleared out we are putting a new floor down, which we already have and get a AC wall window unit in it , till we get a main AC for the whole building..

Now that was mouthful...MOL

Ahhhh - Puffy Paws was not voted as the best non-profit in Englewood !!!!! We will never gets any community honors and awards. It has something to do with I shoot straight from the hip.I make the comfortable people of my community uncomfortable and I make the suffering souls of the community with two legs and four comfortable.

I did the right thing for the community today.

 Big Paws up goes out to Donnie Stephens for helping to pick up all the Rummage Sale left overs at Holiday Estate Park in Englewood, this afternoon, we took what the kitties needed, and this load is going to the The Relay for Life Cancer Team ,that Donnie and his wife has, for their annual gargle sale. The furniture and clothes are going to Project Phoenix, to be given away for folks in need.

I ended up in the hospital emergency room last night. Bronchitis - sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, runny nose, low grade fever ,nasal congestion and the production of sputum. The Dr wrote a script for a Z Pack. Filling it when the pharmacy opens . Also a note that said no working till the 5th and I said "I work for a bunch of pussies and that are won't let me stop working for them. They just won't understand.

 

I will be wearing the mask around Chrissy. I will be doing what i do from the Haven's office. No Thrift Shop on Sunday. I need to take care of me and the kitties from the Haven the next few days and still raise funds while doing it, resting....

Let it be known. Board member of the other rescue group in the area. When you see Chrisy at the Vet, leave my wife alone. Our business at the Vet is Puffy Paws and not yours to pry. Nothing has ever come good for Puffy Paws as you try to meddle in our affairs.

The office manger has told you and your group to leave us be. But this morning when you wanted to know why Chrissy was back at the Vet and Chrissy told you it was none of your business and you called her weird that was uncalled for.

 But when you followed Chrissy home from the Vet in your truck, you just crossed over the line. This leadsus to believe you are very unstable and the proper measures are be taken .

Out with the old in with the Mew !!! It saddens my heart that the community really never donated to the Thrift Shop as they do the others in the area. If they did I would never have to beg. I guess I saw this coming when we first open up nearly four years ago.

That is why on the inside I decided to specialize in the strange and unique. ( See Article ). We now have a niche customer base but not enough to support Puffy Paws. The Shop did $7,000 worth of business in 2012. Mostly from old school video gamers .

Without local media support the outside of the Shop never stood a chance to grow and with me being by myself , these days , it was so labor intense-of. We shut it down to to raise fund in other areas.
No more $1 bins,

We still need the Shop because it does generate funds.
We are going on-line with a lot of the stuff in the Shop on a new facebook page to raise even more funds world wide.

We are still taking donations. I never will say no to anything. We have a sorting system in place. Were I can store it, shelve it or donate it to a smaller non profit that needs help and they have a market for the stuff that we can not sell. It still helps the Community.

I get sick and tried of being so misunderstood by this community we live in. They just do not know how much good. I do not have to run to the local media every-time I do good to toot my horn or to get my picture in the Newspaper and when I try to get local coverage the brassily tell me to piss off my not running any of our success stories.

Since I march to my own juke box and have a low tolerance for
high euthanasia and corruption with the other local groups over the years and bad customer service. All this community is able to do is spread lies,rumors and gossip.

Truth to be told we have to keep a low profile locally.When we have a high profile in the community that brings out the evil in Town that has many times tried to shut Puffy Paws down.

They tried to shut down the Thrift Shop ,only after 10 days when we open nearly four years ago,

Moving slow this morning. 

Today is the last day of heavy moving stuff around at the Thrift Shop. Uncle Eddie and Ken is going to help me. We have the storage tent to clean out. Its so full we can not get in their. Most of the stuff is going to Project Phoenix.

Than I can put my time on the collectable stuff on the inside of the Shop & computer work. Since their is no outside of the Thrift Shop anymore. I need to replace the lost income from it, Since I do not have to open and close the outside. No more worry about the rain and or hurricanes

I do not want to mess with the eBay store since Catherine is doing doing a great job and because of her hard work we have a 100% feed back rating.

What a great live Show. We had Story Time..Rick read to the kitties, Rick ate cat food and he spoke German to the kitties and did a Jerry Lewis impression. The kitties got stone on catnip,had treats and devoured a platter of chicken livers. Check it out !!!!

 Today I had to do the right thing.

Today I had to do the right thing. I had two choices - Let an outside stray kitty get eaten alive by a Bobcat or say yes to entry into the Haven . I said " Yes ".

The Bobcat was coming around the house were the kitty was being feed.
Bobcats will kill a house cat in a heart meal for a meal. That is the sad reality of life in Florida.

That is one of the reason why when someone adopts a Puffy Paws kitty they sign a contact stating they will never let the kitty be an outside cat.

We saved Sassy from the same fate lat year and their is always a monthly support check from Bob. He called me and Kit Kat came in to the Haven after the Vet appt this afternoon.

With being down to one vehicle I had to close the Thrift Shop at 1pm today. She is negative on her snap test and is available for adoption. She is around 4 years old. Long hair calico. She is adjusting to the Haven right now.

It was a now or never decision. I could not let Kit Kat succumb to a Bobcat.
She will be at our next adoption event at Mike's Pet tore on Sunday Feb 10th.

Bob and his wife are going to be helping me with the adoption event to.

Everyday is a new adventure and as long at the end of the day the kitties are taken care of we all did our job we all earned a special place in the hearts of the kitties here at Puffy Paws.

The outpouring was awesome from the SOS's and facebook support. Last night & tonight
( $550 ) - Kitties have dinner, dry, and breakfast !!

We have enough funds for their litter and cleaning supplies.
But that is not all !!!

We paid the FPL 2nd Extension Payment - $196.01

We paid the extended payment agreement with Verizon for the wireless internet at the Thrift Shop & Haven - $279.13.

We got out and paid the Florida State Consumer of Division Affairs $145 for our annual report for 2012.

All these operating expenses & report were due today or no power, no way to fundraiser and no permission to fund-raise in the State of Florida...

The nappy time kitties wishes you a great afternoon !!!

I LOVE MY WIFE: As you can image my wife and I relationship is put to the test each and everyday.We seldom see each other. The time spent is brief and its between Chrissy scooping cat boxes ,cleaning and feeding the kitties.The ban of having no help is destroying my wife. She has lost her life.Her life is the kitties. Her unconditional love for them enables her to move ahead everyday. It’s hard to accept the fact that the cats have to come over our marriage in order to maintain a clean, safe environment for them. People have asked me “ Why do you stay” ?

Because even tho I do not have a traditional marriage to my wife were there is quality time spent together and all the perks and benefits one excepts in a marriage there is a deep bond of love for her deep in my soul.

She is my wife when I took my vows “For better or for Worst” I vowed I will live by them until the day we are no more.

I know I have many selfish faults but each day I try to become a better man and I’m not always successful. That is why I try to put her needs and the needs of the cats above my own selfish desires.

My heart is in pain for Chrissy, the way she works non stop, the powerlessness I feel because I can not seem to get any relieve for her daily drudgery.

The physical pain she endures on a daily basic with her rheumatoid arthritis and the 3 rupture discs in her back from 3 car wrecks , she was in when she was younger, brings to me to cry out to God and ask for mercy for her and I feel anger when none is given.

She is a frail woman with the inner strength of a 1,000 men.

I take the full blunt of her anger and resentment she feels for me, because I said . Yes when I should have said no in taking in the last 100 kitties under our care. I too have taken her life away.

I long for the days that we may become one and share and laugh and cuddle as a married couple.

I stay because the deep love I have for my wife which I cannot express in a traditional way and the love I have for the cats.

My daily actions speaks louder than my words. Because when I open up my mouth over my own personal anger and resentments, I hurts the one I love. I pray for God to hold my tongue so that I may not increase her burdens. But half the time it does not work.

We put the kitties first. They are helpless and we are their care givers. there are 200 hearts beats at stake here and that’s why we are one from afar.

a message from Chrissy.

i had knee surgery in 1989. i need a knee replacement, but i will never do it. the bone is so worn down because all the cartilage was removed and throughout the years of having over a hundred steriod shots and lots of physical therapy, i live with it. most days the swelling is awful. yesturday i was changing a light bulb and i lost my balance on a ladder and fell backwards in the stone driveway. i was still off balance from that when i fell in the bedroom. ouch!!!!! i'm bruised and sore, but i will recover in a few days. thank you for all your comments. most of all i'm grateful for your continued support for the kitties. they mean so much to me, they keep me going. love to all of you always chrissy and the kitties

She lose her balance due to her swollen knee cause of her rheumatoid arthritis. She is in pain and is sore.
